Iranian Student Activist Imprisoned

Behar Hedájatová, a 30 year old student from Iran, has been imprisoned in the Evin prison of Tehran. She is serving a prison sentence for his activities in support of human rights in Iran.
In early December 2009, Behar recorded a video speech for a conference in the Netherlands. The speech was titled, "International solidarity with the Iranian student movement to mark Iran's National Student Day". The video quickly spread over the Internet and instantly became a great success.
Behar Hedájatová was arrested Dec. 31, 2009, shortly after the occurrence of mass arrests that followed anti-government protests during the religious feast of Asure.
She was accused of several crimes, including the participation of "interviews with foreign media," "insulting the leader and the president," "disturbing public order by participating in illegal gatherings," and even for "unauthorized access to Amir Kabir University and [for] damaging its main entrance" during a visit by opposition leader Mehdi Karubího.
Behar Hedájatová is chairwoman of the Women's Committee of the Office for the Consolidation of Unity, which seeks political reform and protests against human rights violations in Iran. It actively campaigned for women's rights and is a member of the Campaign for Equality, which aims to collect signatures for a petition demanding an end to female discrimination in the Iranian legal system and lifestyle.
