Ihar Cichanjuk, LGBTI aktivista, který se sám otevřeně hlásí k homosexualitě, byl po neúspěšném pokusu o registraci nevládní LGBTI organizace Human Rights Centre Lambda v lednu 2013 vyšetřován policií. Přitom byl zbit a čelil výhružkám. Krátce poté ho policie bez obvinění propustila.
Zástupcům Amnesty International Cichanjuk popsal, že ho dva policisté odvedli na policejní stanici z nemocnice, kde právě byl. Ptali se ho na telefonní hovory, auto a boty. Vzhledem k nesmyslnosti otázek odmítl odpovídat. Poté ho policisté zbili a odvezli zpět do nemocnice. Cichanjuk podal na jejich jednání stížnost, ta ale byla zamítnuta pro nedostatek důkazů. Aktivista podal odvolání, i to ale bylo zamítnuto.

Vážený generální prokurátore,
dovolte mi, abych Vás upozornil/a na případ Ihara Cichanjuka, který byl v lednu 2013 po neúspěšném pokusu o registraci nevládní organizace LGBTI Human Rights Centre Lambda vyšetřován policií, zbit a bylo mu vyhrožováno.
Amnesty International je přesvědčena, že odmítnutí registrovat neziskovou organizaci a následné násilí vůči němu proběhlo pouze kvůli jeho odlišné sexuální orientaci.
S ohledem na výše uvedené skutečnosti Vás žádám o:
Řádné a nezávislé prošetření špatného zacházení s Iharem Cichanjukem na policejní stanici a potrestání původců těchto činů i těch, kteří za ně nesou odpovědnost.
S ohledem na hodnoty lidské důstojnosti, svobody, rovnosti a solidarity Vás, pane generální prokurátore, vyzývám k respektování lidských práv nejen v případě zmíněného aktivisty, ale vůči všem lidem v Bělorusku postihovaným kvůli své sexuální orientaci.

Dear Prosecutor General,
Allow me to express my deep concern over the case of Ihar Tsikhanyuk, who was investigated, beaten, and threatened by police officials in January 2013 after he had unsuccessfully attempted to register a non-governmental organization LGBTI Human Rights Centre Lambda in Belarus.
Amnesty International strongly believes that the denial of registration to the non-governmental organization followed by acts of violence was based solely on the attempt to curb the right to express one’s sexuality and to be free from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.
In light of what is described above, I respectfully urge you, Mr Prosecutor Genereal, to ensure that:
– The alleged ill-treatment of Ihar Tsikhanyuk at the police station be duly and independently investigated,
– and both those responsible for the respective actions be brought to face justice and a fair trial.
In the spirit of respect for the basic values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity, I call on you, Mr Prosecutor General, to respect the human rights not only in the case of Ihar Tsikhanyuk mentioned in this letter, but also all the persons persecuted in Belarus on the grounds of their sexual orientation.
