Dear Mr. President:
Plese allow me to express my deep concern for Nito Alves, a seventeen-year-old boy arrested for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression.
Nito Alves, arrested on 12 September 2013 in Viana municipality, is currently being held in the Central Prison in Luanda without any official charge. He has been there for over two months, in stark contravention of both Angolan and international human rights law. In prison, Mr. Alves shares a cell with 9 adults, which is another violation of national and International standards, and he is not receiving any medical treatment despite the fact that his heath condition has been continually deteriorating.
In light of these unfortunate events, Amnesty International considers Nito Alves to be a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for peacefully expressing his views and beliefs. Threrefore, I respectfully urge you, Your Excellency, to ensure Nito Alves‘s immediate and unconditional release.
Thank you for your consideration in this urgent matter.
