Dear Prosecutor General:
Allow me to turn to you to express my deep concern over the case of activists arrested after a peaceful protest event at Bolotnaya Square in Moscow in May 2012, which took place on the eve of President Putin’s inauguration.
Amnesty International considers them prisoners of conscience held only for having peacefully exercised their right of assembly and association.
In the light of the above described, I respectfully urge you, Mr. Prosecutor General, to ensure that:
• Mikhail Kosenko and Artiom Saviolov be granted the right to fair trial and be released from custody on bail while the investigation takes place.
In the spirit of respect for the basic values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity, I call on you, dear Prosecutor General, to ensure respect human rights not only in cases of the three respective activists, but also all the other unjustly imprisoned and persecuted in Russia.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
