Yorm Bopha Arrested Again, Released in Afternoon.

  Článek

Yorm Bopha and four other Boeung Kak activists were arrested this morning as they tried to deliver a petition to the French Embassy in Phnom Penh. They were released in the afternoon after signing police documents stating that they will not conduct protests without informing the Municipality of Phnom Penh. This comes in the context of a violent crackdown on garment factory protesters on 2 and 3 January in which four protesters were killed and more than 20 injured, and against the opposition which has been holding mass demonstrations in protest against alleged fraud and irregularities during the July 2013 elections. The human rights situation has deteriorated, with assemblies banned and union and opposition leaders arrested and summoned to court.

Cambodian unjustly sentenced to three years in prison!

Yorm Bopha was sentenced in December 2012 to three years in prison after being accused of planning an assault on two men suspected of theft. Bopha is a activist living at Boeung Kak lake in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, where she defends the people's right to housing and freedom of expression. Amnesty International sees Bopha as a prisoner of conscience, detained by the authorities in connection with her peaceful activist activities.
